How did you get into wellness, both personally and professionally?
Wellness has always been a part of my life. I grew up on a farm, so I was always active, always outside. I was involved in gymnastics, dance, and sports when I was young and carried that love for movement into adulthood through group fitness, kickboxing, and strength training. I was also a young mother, so it was important to stay active. About 14 years ago, my son was paralyzed in an accident and that was a big shift in my thinking around what being “strong” and “healthy” means. I stay active so I can take care of him, but also because I’m the best version of myself when I’m active. My passion for kickboxing inspired me to become an instructor, and it was there that I realized how deeply I love helping others feel strong, confident, and empowered. This led me to become a certified health and wellness coach and personal trainer. Wellness has become both a personal commitment and a professional calling that allows me to support others in becoming the healthiest versions of themselves.
What excites you most about being part of Level?
Being able to help people feel their best so they can fulfill their life’s journey and purpose with vitality. We’re challenging the status quo of healthcare and focusing on all aspects of wellness, both physical and mental health. We’re tearing down those silos that life can create and viewing the body how it was made—as a whole. I’m excited to not only inspire, but guide individuals to optimize their well-being and truly make a difference in their quality of life.
What misconceptions about wellness do you wish people understood?
I think one of the biggest misconceptions in wellness today is the mindset of perfection; that you have to do all or nothing. This mindset reduces wellness to appearance and control rather than what it truly is: a dynamic and personal balance of physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health. Wellness does not have to be complicated. The smallest changes can reap the biggest rewards over time. Wellness should be about sustainable self-care, and what works for one person may not be the same as what works for another.
You're also a fitness and wellness coach. What business strategies do you use as a personal trainer, or vice versa?
I’ve found consistency, motivation, and discipline are essential in both business and wellness. Staying consistent in the habits that create success in whatever you are doing applies to any realm of life. Managing life is strategic. It doesn’t happen by accident; it’s the result of a series of choices you make. Motivation is very individualized. What motivates me is different from what motivates another person. In business, I’m motivating my colleagues and team members. As a personal trainer, I’m motivating my clients. It’s about finding what empowers people, identifying their strengths and weaknesses, and developing both. Of course, I’ve seen time and again that motivation can sometimes fail you, but discipline rarely does. Discipline will always serve you well. It’s what makes you show up even when you don’t feel like it. It's what lets you pivot and be open to learning new skills. We’re all going to have setbacks in life. But those are opportunities to pivot. It’s not punitive. There’s always a way forward. It’s important to find balance, stay consistent, and give grace when needed.
Go-to wellness pick-me-up?
A 15-minute walk, especially if the weather is nice. Soaking in some vitamin D with a little movement always makes me feel better. I also love a good nutrient dense protein smoothie.
Favorite workout song?
I have several! “Unstoppable” by The Score, “Fighter” by Christina Aguilera, and “Gonna Make You Sweat” by C & C Music Factory.
